How to receive and process an email

    How would you handle this.

I get a daily inventory file for my ecommerce store from my supplier. I want to be able to...

    1. Check a pop3 box daily for that email

    2. receive the text attachment of that email

    3. Save that text attachment.

    4. When the one comes the next day receive it and do the same thing with it.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Patrick-

Here is a tool for Outlook that should do what you need:  http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/attachments_processor/

I am an Authorized Reseller for MAPI Labs, so I may be able to get the product for you at a lower price.

But if you are interested in a more custom solution, or don't use Outlook, I have a few questions:

    1.  What email client are you using?

    2.  Is the daily inventory file sent to a mailbox that is dedicated to receiving the file (i.e. dailyfile@batteryfuel.com), or is it mingled in with your other emails?

    3.  Does your supplier offer the file download via FTP instead of (or in addition to email)?

    4.  What format is the file?  Excel, PDF, delimited text, etc.

    5.  Do you need to save the file with a different filename each day (i.e. file-2006-11-20.txt, etc)?

    6.  Aside from extracting/saving the file, is there anything else you need to do with it (such as automatically update your database with the current inventory/pricing)?

Depending on your answers, I may be able to provide you with a simple EXE program (written in .Net of course) that you can schedule to process your file(s).  I am doing this for my own catalog.
