    PayPal Virtual Debit Card (Beta)

Any thoughts, good or bad, about this new service from PayPal?

Looks interesting.  The one thing that scares me ... it would play hell with recurring billing (like we use) for subscription-type accounts.

Agreed, it's not for recurring subscriptions or for any transaction that would later require the card to be presented (Hotels, Airlines, etc).

I've made 4 purchases so far with it and not had any issues.  It generates a new card# and CVV code each time.  Expiration date always seems to be 1 month ahead (06/2007 for my purchases last week).

Well i my experience with the PayPal virtual debit card is nasty... don't use it. Card is supposed to expire the day you use it.. but that did not happen

the company where I used the virtual card was allowed to use this number to get funds out of my checking account 30 days after the transaction. When

I talked to the rep from PayPal he seemed confused and totally at a loss as to why I keep getting withdraws from my account. I can't cancel the Virtual card

because there is pending payments.. this means that forever  this company can withdraw funds from my account.. had to go to my bank and block paypal

    from accessing my accounts.

Re: PayPal Virtual Debit Card (Beta)

I've never seen anywhere that it says the card# expires the next day.  Besides, that's not possible for several reasons, mainly because of the expiration date it generates is usually 30-60 days from the day it is generated, so it is still valid for that long.  Once the expiration date has passed, THEN the card# is no longer valid.

It's also not possible because many merchants just do an Authorization to verify the card is valid.  Then a day or two later they put the charge through.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but the expiration date it generated should have been an indication that it was valid for at least 30 days.

Why did that company get funds from your account 30 days after the transaction?  That sounds like the real problem and even if you didn't use a virtual card you'd still have that problem.

Re: PayPal Virtual Debit Card (Beta)

Paypal Virtual Debit Cards are Absolutely useless!  Here is my experience ....

I am very confused. I installed the Paypal plugin to use a "SINGLE USE" virtual debit card. It generated a credit card number that is supposed to only be used once for a set amount.

However I have been billed 6 times now, on a monthly basis and I have called Paypal several times and files 'unauthorized transaction' affidavits but have never been credited any of them.

Apparently I have to close my Paypal account to stop being billed $30 every month.

Excuse my ignorance but does single use... not mean "SINGLE USE". Paypal claims it means single merchant which is just completly beyond me. It serves no purpose whatsoever. Is the whole purpose not because you are suspicious of a merchant and want to make sure they can't re-bill you.

I had to close my Paypal account to just shut down this recurring billing, my paypal account was 5 years old.

Re: PayPal Virtual Debit Card (Beta)

Hmm...that's interesting.  What did PayPal say about the expiration date since they expire about 60 days from creation?  Although, I have found that "debit" cards have different rules than "credit" cards.  Generally, you are not as well protected from unauthorized charges on "debit" cards, especially for recurring billing.

Did you try cancelling the service that has billed you 6 times?
