Transfer SSL Cert from another host

I have a GeoTrust SSL Certificate with my current hosting company.  Would you be able to install it?

    Hi itechs,

Yeah sure just email the .cer file and I will install it for you. You will need to be on a dedicated IP address for this to work though.

    Cheers,

Gotcha.  I'm considering the Success plan so that's included.

    Thanks!

    Hi itechcs,

Then you'll have two as it comes with a Thawte SSL as well. The plan has just been increased to 10 GB too so that it is now the same as 5 x Standard.Net.

    Cheers,

Oh yeah, it does.  Is the Thawte SSL free as long as I keep that plan (or any plan that "includes" the SSL)?  Or is it only free for the first year?

    Hi itechcs,

It's included in the plan so next year if you keep the plan you will keep the SSL.

Re: Transfer SSL Cert from another host

Unfortunately my soon-to-be-old-host says that the GeoTrust SSL Cert that I purchased through them was designed specifically for their servers and won't work on another hosting company's servers.  Sounds a little fishy to me.  It was their QuickSSL Premium.

Re: Transfer SSL Cert from another host

    Hi itechs,

That is just pure lies. They can export your SSL and this is transferable to another IIS server. As you own the SSL you should have the right to take it with you. Take that information to them and see what response you get. If you need more firepower you can also contact GeoTrust to confirm that the SSL is transferable.

I planned on contacting GeoTrust tomorrow.  I have my GeoTrust order# and that is about it, but I'm sure they could set the record straight.

Re: Transfer SSL Cert from another host

GeoTrust says that I can transfer it.  The first step is to request the certificate to be re-issued from GeoTrust, which I've done.  The 2nd step is to get my host to generate the Certificate Signing Request.  I have a feeling I'm going to get the runaround on that one, but I'm going to play dumb and ask someone else if I can transfer the cert and see if I get a different answer.

    Hi Will,

We should actually be able to create the CSR for you too.

    Cheers,
