    couple of issues with SmarterMail..

not sure if noting these items here makes sense, but ongoing with using SmarterMail:

    • repeated and continuing need to hit OK for unsecured items while within the mail system online.. this gets old very fast. It may be as simple as one icon not found with the https sphere.. I know i am repeating myself here, but nothing has been done to fix this, as we encounter it continually in webmail.
    • The popup menus activate incorrectly, when you hover above the actual menu item, within the browser sphere, and then the menus stay visible..

Anyone else see this? My clients bug me about it, and i have no clear answers..

Re: couple of issues with SmarterMail..

Regarding the unsecured popup...this is not a problem with SmarterMail, this is a security setting in all browsers.  It is intended to alert people that are connected to an HTTPS connection that there is HTTP content being viewed.  The only solution is to login to SmarterMail using HTTP instead of HTTPS:   http://ultimamail.net

Regarding the popup menus....I'm not exactly sure what you mean.  Do you mean like hovering over the Action menu item?  It always disappears for me almost instantly after I move my mouse out from over the menu.  I've not had any problems where the menu stays visible.  What browser are you/your clients using that have this problem?

Re: couple of issues with SmarterMail..

two notes: my belief is that it is a SmarterMail issue as this happens when there is no mail as well. No mail and nothing going on except showing the mail UI, and we get the message. There should be no http content being served up within an https-based UI, not in the default environment at least. I won't turn off the security warning as i need to know when i pop back and forth within secure environments.

On the second note: i never thought to check, but my IE doesn't do this. I am using Maxthon v2, perhaps it is a skins issue. I will check further, but you can see that behaviour if you hover over to access a menu then roll up vertically into the browser window. The maxthon menu popup will stay visible until you activate another menu or refresh the page..

    thanks for listening, drew..

Re: couple of issues with SmarterMail..

I have the same problem/complaint, but it's not SmarterMail.  No email means there is nothing, and nothing is treated as HTTP instead of HTTPS.  That popup only appears when you have established an HTTPS connection and the content you are viewing comes from HTTP.  If you login via HTTP, you won't get that popup.  You don't have to change any browser settings.  Just add http://ultimamail.net to your Favorites.  Of course the downside is that you aren't using a secure connection.

SmarterMail can't control if people decide to use HTTP or HTTPS sources in their emails (images for example).  Not everyone has an SSL Certificate to use HTTPS, and depending on their hosting company, they may have to actually copy their files to a completely different folder to appear on their HTTPS site (this has happened to me before), so SmarterMail couldn't just automatically change all HTTP links/sources to HTTPS because they have no way of knowing if the HTTP content exists on teh HTTPS site.

Sorry, never heard of Maxthon.  Not to say that it's not a good browser, but it's certainly not standard (IE, Firefox, Netscape, etc) so I'm guessing SmarterMail never tested their product on that particular browser and Maxthon has problems with whatever SmarterMail is rendering.  They can't test every browser that exists and not all browsers are created the same or conform to the same set of standards.

Sounds like Maxthon isn't handling Javascript properly (the onMouseOut or onBlur events).

Re: couple of issues with SmarterMail..

thanks for the reply.. now at the risk of sounding repetitive: i repeat: this occurs in the empty SmartMail window, where there is **no** email displayed, thus it is not just related to previewing the content of somebody's email.

And to be fair, since you have not heard of Maxthon, they are small, having only had around 110 million downloads of their product. It is an IE-based browser that is remarkably easier to use than most. Worth a boo....  cheers, drew..

Sorry if I missed that part.  Nevertheless, "no email" is apparently treated the same as HTTP content...it's not secure.  Maybe that is a design flaw with SmarterMail, or maybe it's designed that way for a reason.  Not sure.  I would suggest posting on their forum to see if it's a bug or not: http://www.smartertools.com/forums/12.aspx
